Spanish teachers Señora Roden and Señora Kopelioff look back at their teen years for this Latin inspired feature of Throwback Thursday. These pictures are sure to make you say, “Ay dios mio!”

Señora Roden

How would you describe your “look” at the time?

I would describe my look as Silverlake artsy.  I wore beaded jewelry, leotard tops, jeans and flats.

What kind of student were you?

I took honors and AP classes and was in the top 10% of my class.  I was a good student but I talked a lot in the classes that I took with my group of friends.

What electives/clubs were you in?

I played the oboe in the orchestra, I ran track and cross country and I sang in the school musicals.

What did you do on your weekends?

During the day, I hung out with my huge family.  We hiked a lot in Griffith Park and went to the beach.  In the evenings, I went to parties with my friends or out dancing in teen clubs in Hollywood.  We also used to hang out in the Onyx Cafe which is now Figaro Bistrot on Vermont.

What was your group of friends like?

I hung out with a group of six very outgoing and fun girls.  I feel lucky that I had such loyal and supportive friends.  We still hang out and now our babies hang out together!

Señora Kopelioff

Looking back at yourself as a teen, what are the first three words that come to mind?

Over-concerned (about grades), responsible and naive. I also think of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I grew up.

What is your best/craziest memory from high school?

Having the graduation class party at a classmate’s home.

How would you describe your “look” at the time?

I had to wear a uniform and the length of my skirt bothered me a lot.

What kind of student were you?

Always  receiving “As” but not having a good balance with my social life.

What clubs were you in?

None at school but I belonged to a Jewish social club [where I went on the weekends.] [In my free time] I studied. I also went to movies and birthday parties.

What kind of music did you listen to?

The Beatles.

What was your group of friends like?

There were different people, some  hard workers, others more fun and social.
