Inspired by the celebrated work of Spanish artist Salvador Dali, Lauren Kohn ’11 aims to create an eerie vibe in her artwork.
“I try to get a message across in my pieces, something that really impacts you. I always try to capture some sort of emotion or fear,” said Kohn.
Beginning in kindergarten when Kohn began taking drawing classes at Renaissance Art, artistic expression has been a prominent part of her life. Aside from her passions in painting and drawing, Kohn enjoys dancing and is a part of the Milken dance team.
“I love dancing because it’s so active and physical, but I love drawing because it’s more calming and mental. But both involve music. For example, I dance a certain way to certain song, but when I draw I listen to a certain song to set the mood for my piece,” said Kohn.
Kohn describes drawing as something that just comes naturally to her, something she’s been doing since she has been doing for as long as she can remember.
“I definitely plan to continue drawing for pleasure throughout my life. I’m excited to just be able to do art at my own pace.” said Kohn.
