On Sunday, November 20, more than 6,000 Israeli-Americans and Jews from the Los Angeles community came together for an unsurpassed evening of music, community building and volunteerism at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City. Spearheaded by the ILC and I.L.Care, special guests included Haim Saban, Israeli Consul General David Siegel, well known Israeli artist Moshe Peretz and Chasidic reggae singer Matisyahu.

The concert’s message was “Do Something for Someone” and participants not only enjoyed $18 discounted tickets, but agreed to volunteer four hours of their time for a worthwhile cause.

Milken Community High School is not new to the culture of giving. As students, we are required to donate our time for community service and are encouraged to follow in the words of our sages to do “g’milut chasadim,” and to give “tzedakah.” Our Hebrew department not only teaches the students the Hebrew language but also strives to connect students to their Israeli heritage and culture through community events and experiences both on campus and outside the school community.

As a result of this dedication and commitment, more than 200 students and faculty attended this amazing event and supported the I.L.Care message.

We can all be proud as a community that we were a part of something much bigger than ourselves. Milken’s participation showed our commitment to not only the Israeli Leadership Council, but also to the humanitarian organizations in our local community and in Israel.
