In 2006, TOMS was founded by Blake Mycoskie, an entrepreneur from Arlington, Texas. TOMS’ main selling point is that “with every purchase, TOMS will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need. A shoe for a shoe.” Since its creation, TOMS shoes has become one of the most successful fashion companies. What has contributed to the company’s success rate? Is it their marketing skills? Their advertisements? We think otherwise.
As many have noticed, Mr. Nick Holton, social sciences teacher, seems to be wearing a different pair of TOMS shoes every day of the week. However, he only owns four pairs. Yet he still fosters a deep appreciation for the shoe brand and vouches for them frequently.
“They are comfortable, easy to take off and on and they look good,” Holton said.
Besides the feeling of walking on clouds while wearing TOMS shoes, Holton feels like every time he wears a pair of TOMS, he is giving something back to others.
“While buying myself a pair [of TOMS], I am also giving back in a sense, which makes the purchase feel like a good one,” Holton said.
However, Holton is not the only one rocking the TOMS shoes. Ms. Amy Frangipane, English teacher also wears TOMS shoes. Many students, both males and females, have also begun wearing them regularly.
TOMS can be found easily, mostly at shoe stores or Whole Foods Markets. TOMS are not just “the original shoe,” which is the plain canvas style, but they have also created new styles, including heels for the ladies and even lace ups for the gentlemen. The original TOMS are $40 and the more creative ones can cost up to $200 a pair.
If you are looking to buy a new pair of comfortable shoes, try TOMS. If you are interested in buying a pair, Holton is happy to discuss his passion for TOMS with any Milken student. For more information on prices and styles, visit TOMS.com.
